Rubric

A rubric is a set of written criteria and performance levels used to mark open-ended work consistently. It states what earns each band before the work comes in.

A clear rubric is the biggest single time-saver in marking, and it makes marking fairer at the same time: you stop re-deciding your standard on every script, and judgements stay consistent from the first paper to the last.

Shared with students beforehand, a rubric also tells them what good looks like, which improves the work you get back.
